Most
people that meet my dogs comment on how well
behaved
and friendly they are. So naturally they want a dog
just
like mine. What they don't realize is the amount of time
that
I have invested to train my dogs to be well behaved.
They
are not born that way. Nor do they come that way
at
8 weeks old when you take them home. I am not saying
that
a Westie is hard to train. What I am saying is that all
dogs
need training to be well behaved including Westies.
If
given the proper training a Westie will eagerly learn its
proper
place in the family. And you will have a well-behaved
addition
to the family. If you choose not to train your
Westie
then don't be surprised when he/she takes over as
boss
of the house and then starts training you. If you think
I'm
kidding, I will give you a few examples. I'm sure you
know
a few dogs that have their owners very well trained.
How
about a dog that begs at the table until the owner
gives
them something. Did the owner teach the dog to beg
or
did the dog teach the owner to feed him when he begs.
What
about a dog that nudges their own until they pet them.
Did
the owner teach the dog how to nudge them or did the
dog
teach the owner when they want to be petted. Or the
dog
that keeps giving its owner a toy until the owner plays
with
them. I could go on and on but I think you know what
I
mean. Most dogs that are given up to shelters are dogs
that
were not trained how to behave properly
(NOT
THE DOGS FAULT) and have become boss of the
house.
So if you don't intend to invest the time and devotion
to
properly train your puppy. Then please don't get a puppy
(Of
any Breed) get an older dog that is already trained.
